Dreams have been of interest to many in professional fields such as psychologists, scientists, artists, and even mathematicians. The thought is that dreams have a role in life and a dream + sleep journal's purpose is to help you discover what that may be.
A dream + sleep journal is a record of your sleeping patterns and habits as well as the experiences you have in your sleep aka the dreams. You simply write down what you remember from your dreams and along the way you can start to analyze what your dreams mean, especially if one or two of them repeat time and again.
It can help you remember your dreams and improve your memory overall. Dreams are only here for a short time and the more time that passes from the time you wake up the more challenging it is to write them down. Have your dream + sleep journal next to your bed and write them down as soon as you wake up, will make it easier to remember. It's also a great exercise for your brain!
It may not be a surprise to you that what you dream about can impact your day. When you have a positive dream you have an easy-going day, while waking up from a nightmare may make you full of anxiety and worry. So when you write down your dreams it helps you understand why you feel the way that you do each day. You could also identify triggers for your thoughts and emotions that you may not always be consciously aware of.
Dreams aren't linear in a box and when you embrace using a dream + sleep journal, you have the advantage of dreaming about a problem, and then writing down the result in a dream diary. Dreams can help you with your next art piece, storyline, or just everyday challenges you may be needing to address.
Now add coloring into the mix and you have yourself a new way of processing and analyzing the information that came to you in your dreams!
I was born in Bad Homburg, Germany. Growing up in foster care I spend a lot of time alone creating art or writing stories. In 1992, when I became pregnant, I discovered crochet and emersed myself in the craft. I also immigrated to the US and throughout the years, I explored various mediums of art – such as macrame, cross-stitch, and painting - while raising my kids. In 2005, I wanted to create my own wood beads and discovered the wood-burner and fell in love with it. It’s at the same time I had the nudge to start my handmade business part-time with the intention to be full-time someday.
But life derailed for a little while, as I became a special needs parent, enrolled in online college twice, and am the proud owner of a B.S. in Accounting and an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling – which eventually led me to start my coaching + consulting business.
Throughout the years I kept coming back to three mediums: coloring, crochet, and wood-burning, and am now balancing two businesses! With most of the kids creating their own lives and only the youngest left, I get to create art and teach people how to make art, while also helping people with their goals. It’s having the cake and eating it too!
I live in Central Virginia with tons of inspiration out of my backyard, the blue ridge mountains, and the events I attend!
